Hi there!! So, like promised, here's my first review of a TV show. Well, technically it's a webshow, with webisodes, but anyway.
So, Ever after High is a line of Mattel dolls which have their own webshow of the same name. It's about the teenage sons and daughters of famous fairytale heroes (and villains) who all go to the same boarding school, Ever After High or EAH for short.
At the school, the students are trained to follow in the footsteps of their parents, and do exactly what they did, but one day, a students, tired of being treated as evil like her mother, decides to write her own destiny and NOT follow in the footsteps of her mother's evil past. This causes a riff between the students, and the school is divided between the Royals, the ones who believe that they should follow their destinies, and the Rebels, who believe that they should choose their own destinies!
Running time: 2-3 mins per episode, but some episodes are longer, and Thronecoming (a special long episode) is about 45 mins.
Available: 2013-present.
Available at: www.youtube.com, and EAH's official website, www.everafterhigh.com
My Opinion:
Characters: One thing I like about EAH is that it has a wide diversity of characters, and there's not one main character (although, at least at the beginning, it has more of a focus on students like Raven Queen and Apple White). And some webisodes have a focus on more background characters, and give them more personality.
Romances: There are a few complicated relationships at EAH, including love triangles, and a forbidden love between a Royal and a Rebel. Although these romances are quite sweet, I do believe they could dig a little deeper with them.
Story lines: Mattel did an amazing job with story lines in this show! I'm impressed! By the very first episode, you're hooked, and sometimes, a webisode will leave you wondering, "Wait, what happens next?!". But, despite this, there are occasionally some webisodes that just don't interest me at all.
Spiritual/supernatural content: If you're a Christian, like me, you might be a little cautious about TV shows that involve magic. As one character mentions, "Ever After is all about magic!", and it's true. They have lessons on casting spells and there's one teacher who's permanently flying on a random...bongo?...but anyway, you get the idea. There's a lot of magic, just so you know.
Animation: I LOVE the animation in EAH! It's like, a mix of 2D animation, but it's still, like, modern. It's great, and they move very smoothly. I also love the colours in this show, they're, like, really colourful, but not too neon or anything. Very beautiful.
Outfits: Okay, if you're a fashion fanatic, like me, then you might do what I do and get a little bit of inspiration for outfits from TV shows you watch. The style in this show is amazing! Everyone's clothes are super unique, modern but with a dash of fairytaleness (that's not a word, but who cares :P). But, despite me LOVING these clothes, I find that they are super hard to wear for yourself. The reason being that their clothes revolve very much around dresses, and I don't really have any dresses that I would look good in just casually, so, that's a bummer :( But, I have tried to imitate Poppy O'Hair's style, and kinda succeeding :)
And, that's my review! Comment and tell me what you thought, and if I missed anything, comment and I'll do a part two. I'm also going to start a segment about character/celebrity inspired fashion, so if you have any suggestions, tell me!
Bye guys!
From, Apple Jack
P.S. If you have no idea why I'm calling myself a My Little Pony character, read my last post :)
