Book Review: A Place Called Home By Dilly Court

This summer I went to England and of course I had to buy some books. One of the books I  got was called "A Place Called Home" by Dilly Court. I love these sort of books as they are based in the past and I love history. I at once fell in love with this book and was really upset that I couldn't buy more than one book because Dilly Court has written a lot of books and I wanted to buy all the books she had written in one go. But in the end I chose this one, and can't wait to read more books by this amazing author. I decided to tell you all a little about this book, and maybe you too would like to read it.

A Place Called Home

This book is a really good book and I couldn't put it down. I am usually a slow reader but I actually read this book rarther quickly, and will defiantly be reading it again... and be buying more books by the same author.

-Book Review: A Place Called Home-

This book is about a girl called Lucy Pocket who is born out of wedlock when her mother was only fourteen, and has spent all her life under the care of her mother's mum, Eva. They move from one poor lodging house to another and are always in debt. They have to rely on theft to help them survive.
Lucy loves her grandmother and doesn't want to leave her. She can't think of ever being away from her, but then her paternal grandfather buys Lucy from Eva, and is determined to bring her up to be a lady. Lucy is heartbroken that Eva gave her away and tries her best to get back to her but this doesn't end up as planned as she can't find her grandmother. This leads into more trouble when her new guardian's nephew (her grandfather's nephew) finds out Lucy will receive what her grandfather will leave behind once he dies, which means his estates and money. The nephew does his best to try and get rid of Lucy but Lucy can't be got rid of that easy. When her grandfather dies,  and Lucy is much older, his nephew cheats Lucy out of her inheritence, and then forces her to look after his three illegitimate children. Lucy does not lose hope, and soon makes herslef a family of her own.

In this book you can see the difficulties life puts upon you when you have very little and that when times get hard, a good and loving home can actually bring a family together!

This book is based in London, around the year 1861. I love these types of books because it has a historic backround and I really enjoy history. This book instantly became under the list of "my favourite books" as I do not have one favourite book and Dilly Court is now one, out of a few, of my favourite authors. I really can't wait to read more of her books.

I'm sure you will also enjoy this book!
