"I'll never see him again!" - Short Story

August, 1914
Jane walked slowly towards the sea, across the sandy yellow sand. Tears fell down her pale cheeks, as she looked out over the shimmering water.
"I'll never see him again. I just know I won't" Jane cried.
She sat down on the sand, and looked out to sea.
Her boyfriend, Isaac O'Conner, had left the day before to fight in the war. People were dying everyday, and Jane was sure she would never see the young man she had fallen in love with ever again.
This place, on the beach, was the last place she had ever spoken to Isaac, before he left. The last time she would ever seen him had been at this beach, by the sea.
"Why did he have to go?" Jane cried, "There are plenty of other  young men out there. We were going to get married and be so happy but none of that will happen now...."
Jane broke down into uncontrolable sobs.
Her life, as she knew it, had come to an end.
So many young men, and boys, that she had known growing up had all left to fight in this dreadful war. Would she ever see any of them again?
Her own brother had left, and many of her friends, and now this....
Jane stood up and walked along the sandy beach, like she had done the day before.  The only difference was that Isaac wasn't by her side... holding her hand.
Now, her future husband was gone.
She couldn't believe it, but he was gone. She would never see him again.
She just knew it...
Isaac would die, like so many of the young men.... and she will never set eyes on his handsome face again.
