Animal Cruelty

This is not written by me. It was sent to me ages ago, for my magazine/blog and I forgot about it. Sadly, I have even forgotten who wrote it. Dedication to that person.
Also, I will be posting more stuff soon but I am in the middle of revision and have exams soon so may not be able to post as much as I would want. But excpect a lot from me when June arrives.

Cruelty and torture are luxuries that the human species is attempting to eradicate from its society. There is the belief that all individuals have basic rights and many are fighting fiercely to insure the respect of them. How is it then that the same is not done for the beasts of his world? How is it that the attack and abuse of all creatures is permitted when all this causes is a brutal infliction of pain and weakness within society? Animal cruelty is a crisis in need of urgent attention for cruelty towards animals should not exist on any level.

All creatures are capable of sensing pain whether they are the smallest of pets or the most powerful forces of the wild. Physical and psychological suffering can occur and always does when they are used for personal gain or improperly cared for. Commercial breeding operations and countrywide dogfighting cause severe injuries and/or infirmaries. Each year, the killing of 100 million animals takes place in U.S. laboratories for chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing. At rodeos harsh handling practices are implicated such as the twisting of calves' tails and/or painful electric shocks while they are already under stressful conditions. Farm animals used for meat and eggs are being forced into cramped wire cages that are stacked on top of each other never getting the chance to see sunlight. Moreover, in countries that have few or no laws in place, the treatment of animals is far worse especially in the fur and exotic animal industries. Tell me, would you be able to endure such conditions every day of your life or even enjoy the experience?

Consequently, there is yet another issue. That issue being the impact this has on society. Multiple psychological studies have proven that those who take part in animal cruelty display high levels of aggression. This can and does lead to certain psychopathologies such as psychopathic personality disorder. In addition, children and adolescents that demonstrate such tendencies usually become violent criminals, including serial killers. They are already pre exposed and desensitized to the infliction of harm, which allows them to harm whoever they please.

Clearly, there is cause for concern. As long as animal cruelty is prevalent in society, there will be dire repercussions. The thoughts that provoke and actions that cause animal cruelty cannot be tolerated if there is to be any positive or beneficial progress.
